Brandolyn's Weight Loss Journey **UPDATED 4/2012** [Apr. 24th, 2008|11:00 pm]
Brandolyn
[Smurfmotional Scale: |accomplishedaccomplished]

In the beginning of my childhood, I was not overweight. When I turned 9 years old, the weight just started to pile on. I have no excuses for why this occurred. As my adolescent years went by, I remained overweight (gaining and losing some here and there, but mostly gaining). When I was 21, I thought that I finally had the motivation. I lost 50lbs and was loving it until I met the man who I was going to marry. I got distracted and let the weight loss go, gaining back all that I had worked hard for. In 2005, I married that wonderful man, dealt with the death of my parish/city (hurricane Katrina), and found out that I was pregnant shortly after. Throughout the pregnancy, I was longing for my body back as the motivation bug had hit me again. I was ready this time to seriously take on weight loss. As soon as the little bugger was out, it was time to stop stuffing my face and start moving more! In July 2006, my beautiful son was born. It was finally time to take control of my life again!

Before pregnancy, I was 260lbs. At the end of my pregnancy, I managed to get up to 303lbs! A month after my son was born, I found myself at 266lbs and used that as my starting point. I started dieting some for a few months and lost 5-10lbs. I wasn't carefully charting this due to being busy with a newborn. That December, I decided to start exercising again. I also ended up breaking my toe shortly after I said that. We already owned a dusty treadmill. In January, we decided to go out and buy an exercise bike as well. I cut my calories to 1500 calories a day (except my cheat day of Saturday) and started working on that bike everyday while my husband watched our son for me. When my toe healed enough, I started using the treadmill again. It was my preferred cardio machine at the time. After a 100lb weight loss, I noticed some excess skin issues. In January 2008, my husband and I joined the YMCA. We do cardio and weight training 3-5x's a week. The rest of the week, I try to get cardio in at home when I can. I am building muscles throughout my body and I feel so alive! I'm coming to the end of my journey, but this is a lifestyle change. It really has to be forever.

Stats from original weight loss with pictures at the bottom:
Age: 25
Height: 5'5
Starting weight: 266
Current weight: 140
Ultimate goal: 140

WARNING: This is an extremely picture heavy post.

August 2006 (Right after my son was born)

February 2007 (When I got serious about losing weight after already losing 10lbs with some dieting)

May 2007 (40lbs weight loss)

One more look back at the old Brandolyn

April 2008This is me now..as in this past month. This is what 120lbs going bye-bye looks like.

And a personal favorite...

Me at 140lbs:

UPDATE (04/18/2009): I got pregnant again in July 2008 at my lowest weight of 140lbs. I delivered my baby girl in April 2009. I am now looking to get my pre-pregnancy body back as I have gained too much weight in my pregnancy. I have already gone back to 1500 calories a day and go to the YMCA everyday for exercise. Here are the new stats:

Age: 27
Height: 5'5
Starting weight: 185
Current weight: 140
Ultimate Goal: 140

UPDATE (04/13/2010): I have done it! I have completed my goal of getting back to pre-pregnancy weight! Currently,  I am just trying to continue staying active and enjoy my family...who keeps me very busy!

And what kind of person would I be with out providing pictures!
1 day post partum Photobucket
And finally...12 months and some days post partum:

UPDATED (4/12/12) - I have gained back about 30lbs in the last 2 years. I have been exercising some, but not as heavily as I used to. I have been eating horribly! Last week, I worked on regulating my exercise routine and did quite well. This week, I added counting calories using my awesome Droid App. I'm on my way again! *knock on wood*

My reason for this entry is to keep it open as a link from my website. I also know how other weight loss stories helped me when I thought that I could never do it. Questions and comments are both welcome and greatly appreciated..but also screened by anonymous comments. Thanks for taking a peek into my journey! I hope that I can inspire the way that others have inspired and continue to inspire me.

First of all, thank you!

Yes, I don't notice it as much unless I look back at old pictures either. Most of my friends who haven't seen me in the while do the freak out at first...but the ones who see me all the time will look back and say "you weren't that big, were you?" I didn't think that I was even back then.

You are doing great in working-out. You never seemed out of shape, but you are taking the steps to ensure you never get there. Keep it up as you know how worth it exercise is!

Thank you, girl. That was awesome to hear.

Yes, I am happy that I did it with eating right and exercise. I don't have anything against WL surgery other than the fact that I am afraid of going under the knife and would like to avoid it as long as I possibly can. The other issue is that a lot of people who get the surgery (that are able to walk and move still with their weight) often gain it back within 10 years because they start to eat more over time and never start an exercise routine. Not all of them, but a good number. Fortunately, I have started exercise from the beginning and changed my eating habits right away. It hasn't always been easy, but it is a routine now. In fact, I love working out. My husband would even say that I'm "addicted" to it. I guess there could be worst addictions, right? Haha!

You are beautiful. You were before and you are now. You are such an inspiration. I cannot wait to start seeing my weight loss.

You're right, this is a life style change. I keep telling myself that it isn't a diet, we're changing for good. It's not always easy, but what habit is easy to kick?

Great Job!!

Thank you so much, girl! I think a lot of people are beautiful regaurdless of their weight. I don't notice it on other people because I was always too busy putting myself down. I do that even now sometimes, but less often.

Ain't that the truth! It is a tough change that gets better. Once you create the new habit, the old ones dies ..hard, but it does die! LOL

Good luck to you and I'm always here for you (as I'm sure you will be for me).

Wow, what an incredible transformation. I am so inspired by your hard work! I am on my way, and being reminded that it actually IS possible is so wonderful for me.

I have a couple of questions for you ... do you find that you have a lot of excess tummy skin? I started at 230 and I'm now down to 219, with a goal weight of 135 or so. My husband and I want to start having kids soon, and I know I need to wait for any tummy tucking until after, but I'm nervous about what to expect with excess skin. I do a lot of cardio combined with weight training, and so far it's going really well.

Anyway, you're an amazing inspiration, and I look forward to seeing you get to your goal weight!! Thank you so much for sharing these!

Thank you again! You are VERY added back.

As for he excess skin question, it is a matter of a few factors (as I'm sure you already know). How long you have been overweight, genetics, how fast you lose the weight, how you lose the weight, and age. You are young and that is great for the elasticity of your skin. In my personal experience, I did have skin trying to keep up with my 2lb a week loss, but I wasn't doing weights until about 3 months ago. In this short 3 months of weight training added to my cardio, I have seen a great deal of shrinkage. My husband comments on how great things are looking. I even had a friend (who I hadn't seen since Earlier this year) tell me how great my arms looked. I couldn't tell you what to expect, but I can say that since you have been doing a good amount of cardio mixed with weight training this early in the game, you will see less problems than I saw. My wish is that I could have started the weights back when I started this journey, but I hated them back then. Now, I LOVE them and get excited to go to the YMCA just to do them. Yeah, I'm a freak! LOL

As for the *ahem* other question(sorry, I have to be PG in a public entry as I do have famiy reading this). I will say that my husband seems to want me more and it is better as certain angles can be achieved more easily now. Besides that, my husband has taken to weight training and it has helped him in certain areas. *wink wink*nudge nudge*

As for being picked up, it doesn't happen during that time...but he has in front of friends and family picked me up recently to prove he is a man. LOL

Good luck and thanks for the add! It will be fun getting to know you.

Thank you, girl!

Basically, I cut down to 1500 calories a day. I eat fast food, chocolate, and all the goods that I want (mixed in with some healthy). It is all about the calories and as much exercise as one can fit into their daily life.

Thanks and I really wish you luck! =D

This is so awesome!! Not only do you look fantastic, but you've done so much to better your health. Whenever I would see people on advertisements who claimed to lose that much weight, I always thought they had to have had surgery. It was hard to believe. You've proven that it really takes a lot of determination and hard work, not surgery. You should send your story and photos to Jillian Michaels! There's a section on the site for success stories: Jillian Michaels - Submit Success Story (opens in new window). I just thought you might be interested.

You Rock!

Thank girl! Apparently, it could be done. I was a skeptic at one time as well! LOL I submitted my story there. Thanks for giving me the site. The main reason to get this story out is because there are so many people who inspired me with their webpages. I'm happy to do the same. =D
